An Egg-citing Week

This week we have been having a lot of fun with all things Eggs. Today we used plastic eggs to paint pictures using red and blue paint. This was a little messy especially because that red paint even after you wash it off leaves your hands pink!
We are working on our rhyming skills
These three are trying to decide what they are going to put inside their eggs, animal, candy, yolk.... What is inside an egg anyways??

We also worked on making patterns today. Pink, white, pink, white...

Today we also did a taste test. Teacher Trina cooked up scrambled and hard boiled eggs. We then tasted each one and made a graph of what we liked the best. Most kids said they liked both but I think hard boiled won the day.

We have had a great week so far. April is going to be all about animals. I will post the April lesson Schedule in a couple of days. Have a great night

Spring Fever Week Recap (finally)

Last week was Spring Fever Week. Here are a few shots of what we did.
This first picture is Hat Day.
Tuesday was Crazy Hair Day. It was a lot of fun seeing all those wacky hairstyles. I think the multiple ponytail look was probably the most popular with the girls and crazy spikes were the way to go for the boys. To bad not many lasted through nap time :)

I forgot to take crazy sock day pictures. .... On Thursday was wear yellow day. This is our most decked out little banana!

Friday was Pajama and Pancake party day. I must say not very many kids were hungry for lunch that day after we stuffed our faces with as many pancakes as we wanted. I think the record was 10 this year- but don't worry they were small!

As you can see they were in charge of their own pancakes. Every inch had to be covered and every drop enjoyed!

I know what you are thinking EWWW but the good news is she only took about 3 bites before the rest went in the trash.

An last but not least here is our one and only Pancake Chef Diana- in her purple Eyore jammies...
Thank for all the participation that we have been getting lately. I know it is hard to keep track of all the things we ask you to do. We really love to plan things that get the whole family involved.
Also thanks to all who brought eggs. We have enough filled now that each child in our class should get about 10 eggs in the hunt- ah if only we could do it outside...... Thank You Thank You Thank You-

March 28-April 2

Hi everyone hope you have had nice relaxing weekends. I apologize for not having any pictures posted from last week but we left our router in Salt Lake and that has made adding pics a little more complicated than I have had time for. I promise I will get some posted as soon as I can. I took some really cute ones of our Pajama and Pancake Party on Friday.

This week we will be starting our Egg unit. We talk about the parts of an egg, what it looks like, how you can eat it and oviparous and non-oviparous animals. We also talk a little about Easter and the traditions around it. Most of the Easter talk will be Friday at our Easter Party. We are still in need of donations of candy and eggs. I filled about 100 on Friday but that only equals out about 2.5 eggs per kid and that will not be much fun...... So I hope you will be able to donate! Please have them there by Wed. so I have time to fill them all. We so appreciate all the support we get from you. As always if you would like your child to come Friday and it is not their regular day it is fine with us. You can just bring them for the party (9:30-11:30ish)

This week Letter E. I am not sure we will have enough time for sharing on Friday but your child is still welcome to bring something that starts with E to school. Don't forget to find things that start with E at home this week.

I hope that everyone had a good time at Parent teacher conferences. Remember to help your child sign in at our new sign in center. We hope this daily activity will really boost our name writing skill through the roof!

Starting April first I will also bring back our book reading chart. There were a few request at parent teacher conference. If you remember you get to put a sticker on the chart per book you read at home the night before. Reading to your child is actually one of the number one indicators of success in your child's education.

Wow this was a lot of information! I will see you all tomorrow!

Leprechaun on the Loose

Today we read a story called Leprechaun on the Loose about a leprechaun that makes trouble for a little boy at school. Sure enough when we came in from outside we found that a leprechaun had been messing up or class. We were MAD-because we had to clean up a mess we didn't make.

He dumped out a lot of things all over the floor!

He threw ribbon and gold coins everywhere

We had to scrub his footprints off the floor.

What A MESS! We were feeling really mad and in our class when we feel mad we talk about it. We wrote a note to the leprechaun and everyone signed their name. A little while later we found a note from the leprechaun. In the note he said he was sorry and that he wanted to be our friend. He gave us clues for a treasure hunt. We followed them and guess what we found.....

A box full of gold! But the trick was on us again it was really chocolate not real gold.

We hope we don't see that leprechaun again for a while- unless he brings us more chocolate!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

March 15-19

Sorry this is so late this week but I was out of town all weekend....
This week we are learning about St. Patricks day and Rainbows. Our letter of the week is R.
We will talk about leprechauns and Pots of Gold and do lots of fun activities with colors. We have almost finished our assessments for parent teacher conferences. We will be holding them sometime next week. Also All About Kids had some good news this week. As some of you know we have been working on getting a Grant to help buy new toys and improve the playground and word came last week that we got it . Starting the 1st of April there will certainly be construction going on. I believe we will finally be getting new tile and carpet in our classroom along with some new toys and shelves. We are really excited!!! As some of you also know we are working on getting all about kids accredited. As a part of that process we will be passing out a parents survey that we will need returned at your P.T. Conference. This is a busy fun time at All About Kids. We are so excited. Next week will be Spring fever week I will post what each day is sometime later this week. Have a GREAT week!

Messy Fun

This is why I haven't posted much this week. I have not had a lot of time to take pictures because I have been up to my elbows in paper mache this week. In the 5 years Diana and I have been teaching together we have never tried paper mache before but because of the new center style we are using this year we thought it would be fun to try it out. I was surprised how scared most the kids were to get there hands dirty. I had to keep saying no you need to use MORE goop. But is was a lot of fun and today we painted them to be... Dinosaur Eggs. They were definitely not afraid to get paint dirty- (which you will all be able to tell because we forgot the paint shirts)SORRY!!!! This picture takes place before we got really messy.
We have had a lot of fun this week learning about Dinos. Tomorrow is our Dinosaur Party. Make sure to bring a Dinosaur to share, and wear dinosaur clothes either picture or color wise.
To end I want to share the story our class wrote about our class pet Zimmy the Dinosaur. I must say that this is the first time in 5 years that our class has chosen a dinosaur other than a T -rex for our pet so they get big props from me for originality. p.s. an apatasaurus is a long neck;)

Have a great weekend!

Dinosaur Monday

Today we started our Dinosaur week. We learned a little about how a fossil is made and how paleontologist dig them up very carefully. We watched a video of paleontologist using brushes to carefully uncover a dinosaur skeleton. At center time we uncovered dinosaur bones in our water table and then matched them onto a dinosaur skeleton. (yes that is supposed to be an apatosaurus- I am neither an artist or a sculptor)

This is our alphabet matching game. We matched upper to lowercase letters.
In this center we sorted dinosaurs into the right color swamp.
Here we got to hold real fossils of an ammonite, a trilobite, and also some dinosaur Poop.....
Here is an apology in advance..... Coming up the end of this month we will be holding parent teacher conferences. In preparation for these we are conducting our yearly assessments. We are holding movie nap every day this week so we can get these done. So if your child is more grumpy because they don't nap this week we are really sorry and don't worry things should be back to normal by next week.

Also coming up Friday April 2 will be our class Easter Party and Egg Hunt. We ask the parents to donate plastic eggs and candy to fill them for the hunt. The more you donate the more fun it will be for our class..... Anything you can contribute will be great!!

Lots of fun things coming up this month keep your eyes on the white board and here so your child will not be left out of the fun.

Are you Serious

Just a funny story from Thursday. So have any of your kids tried to tell you about the clouds? Diana taught us about different types of clouds... stratus, cumulus and cirrus. When she was having them say the names back to her they named them as stratus, cumulus and serious clouds.
So the next time your child looks up at the sky and says "are those serious clouds mom" know that they learned that in preschool.

Wednesdays Weather

Today's Lesson was called "Feel the Weather" and that is just what we did. We talked about rain, snow, wind and rain then experimented with different aspects of each. We also made pages for a weather book.
We used wind to blow paint around on our pages

We used droppers and watercolor paint to make a raindrop pictureWe used streamers for our sunshine page
We used salt to make snowy scenes.
Our weather center was full of fun things to explore.
This is our Rain-stick it was really fun working together to hear the sounds of rain falling in the classroom.

I set out the umbrella and spray bottle for them to see how water beads up on umbrellas they came up with the idea to hide underneath while someone sprayed-thus staying dry! (Mostly)
Our next area was wind- this is the bubble blower

We used ribbons to see what the wind looks like- we also like talking into the fan so we could sound like robots!
We can always count on the kids to clean up all the big messes we teachers make......
These girls are taking care of the snow storm
These girls are cleaning up the wind storm
My question is where are all the boys?? I love to see the children taking ownership of the class by helping out!!

Today was lots an lots of messy fun. I can't wait to see what Teacher Diana has cooked up for tomorrow
